Melissa pictureMELISSA BIRD
Social Services Director

After graduating from Wheaton College, Melissa Bird accepted an entry-level position in the Genetics Department at Massachusetts General Hospital. From there, she moved into the Social Work Department where she discovered that she loved the interplay of medicine and social work. In 1986, she relocated to New Hampshire where she worked for Region 10 as a case manager, but soon found that she missed medical social work. She accepted a position at Seacoast Health Center, now known as Oceanside, where she was the sole social worker for a 120-bed unit. Here, she learned about the daily operations of a long-term care facility and developed skills to work with the elderly and their families. In 1991, she became the Social Services Director at Webster at Rye. During her tenure, she has developed the Hospice program, created and maintained relationships with hospital case managers, learned applicable Medicare/Medicaid rules and regulations, and continues to coordinate admissions. Melissa is most proud to say that she is now admitting the “second generation” of residents.
